Abdullah Al Qassab is a research and development engineer who believes in the combination of talent and passion to spur positive change. Abdullah Al Qassab is a youth mentor and has mentored over 1000 young people so far. He is an actor and has had projects screened in Hollywood and the Cannes film Festival. An entrepreneur and philanthropist, Al Qassab uses the talent of standup comedy to fund humanitarian projects. He is also a well-known public speaker and media figure. All his projects and work are dedicated to serve the youth of UAE.

Mohamed Amine Belarbi

Mohamed is a serial entrepreneur who launched his first venture in second year of undergrad, started his own publication (Gulf Elite) a year later with over 40,000 monthly readers, and published 2 books by the end of university. He is currently co-founder and CEO of VUL9 Security Solutions, the region’s fastest growing cybersecurity company currently helping UAE tech giants such as Careem, ENBD, FlyDubai and Aramex better secure their platforms and data, as well as assisting various marquee brands in the UAE better defend against cyber attacks and cyber breaches. Mohamed has been recognised as “Young Entrepreneur of the Year” by Arabian Business, “10 top African change leaders” by African Leadership University, “One of 7 youth transforming the world” by Spain-based organisation Pangea and was the youngest entrepreneur to ever be featured on the cover of Forbes Middle East Magazine.

Rabia Chaudry

Rabia Chaudry is an attorney and author of the NY Times Bestselling, critically acclaimed, and award winning book “Adnan’s Story”. The book tells the story of the ongoing fight to free Adnan Syed, who was wrongfully convicted of murder in 1999 at the age of seventeen. She is a recent Jennings Randolph Senior Fellow at U.S. Institute of Peace, where she researched the intersection of religion and violent extremism and an International Security Fellow at the think tank New America. Rabia is also the co-host and co-producer of the hit podcast “Undisclosed”, which investigates wrongful convictions and over 230 million downloads, and the co-host of the political podcast “The 45th”. She is a frequent public speaker and writer on religion, gender, social and criminal justice, and national security. Stephen Davies

Stephen Davies, professional in Computer Aided Design for the last 24 years, technology enthusiast, father of three and co-founder of Team UnLimbited. I was born with one hand. Drew Murray built me my first 3d printed hand I realised the impact and the need for help. That’s when we designed the UnLimbited arm. With Drew Murray, we began collaborating on 3D printed assistive devices and together founded Team UnLimbited. We design, build fit and deliver 3d printed hands and arms to those that need them. We do this alongside our day jobs and family lives completely free. We open sourced our design free for non-commercial use allowing anyone that needs help access.

Aubrey de Grey

Dr. Aubrey de Grey is a biomedical gerontologist based in Mountain View, California, USA, and is the Chief Science Officer of SENS Research Foundation, a California-based 501(c)(3) biomedical research charity that performs and funds laboratory research dedicated to combating the aging process. He is also VP of New Technology Discovery at AgeX Therapeutics, a biotechnology startup developing new therapies in the field of biomedical gerontology. In addition, he is Editor-in-Chief of Rejuvenation Research, the world’s highest-impact peer-reviewed journal focused on intervention in aging. He received his BA and Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. He is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America and the American Aging Association, and sits on the editorial and advisory boards of numerous journals and organisations. He is a highly sought-after speaker who gives 40-50 talks per year at conferences, universities, companies in areas ranging from pharma to life insurance, and to the public.

Anthony Geffen

Anthony Geffen is one of the world’s leading documentary film makers and a pioneer in multi-platform storytelling. He has won four British Academy awards (BAFTAs) and eight American Emmy Awards. He followed Ang Lee and James Cameron to be presented in Hollywood with the Charles Wheatstone Award for his outstanding contribution to film and television. His diverse films include eleven projects with Sir David Attenborough including the BBC series The Great Barrier Reef, the theatrical film The Wildest Dream: Conquest of Everest and the recently acclaimed The Coronation with The Queen. He is considered by the media as a visionary for storytelling across different digital multi-platforms in 3D, interactive apps, and now immersive VR, AR and AI experiences. These include Space Decent, The Munduruku, First Life and Health VR. In 2007 he received the first British Academy Award for VR storytelling. Anthony is a fellow at St. Cross College, Oxford University.

Erik Huggers

Erik Huggers is an industry-recognised digital media senior executive and entrepreneur. He previously served as Vevo’s President and CEO. In this capacity, he was responsible for driving the strategy and growth of the company’s global footprint across product and technology, content and programming, and sales. He oversaw Vevo’s most successful period of growth, where views and revenues doubled over his tenure. Erik was a Senior Vice President at Verizon Communications Inc., where he was also President of the company’s OnCue business. Prior to that, Erik developed OnCue at Intel, where he was President of the company’s media division from 2011 to 2014. Before Intel, Erik was an executive board member responsible for the BBC’s Future Media & Technology division, where he launched BBC iPlayer, one of the first premium online video services. Erik has also held senior roles at Microsoft Corp. and at Endemol Entertainment.

Martin Jacques

Martin Jacques is the author of the global best-seller When China Rules the World: the End of the Western World and the Birth of a New Global Order. It was first published in 2009 and has since been translated into fifteen languages and sold 400,000 copies. The book has been shortlisted for two major literary awards. A second edition of the book, greatly expanded and fully updated, was published in 2012. A new updated and expanded edition of the book was published in China in April 2016. His TED talk on how to understand China has had over two million views. He is a Senior Fellow at the Department of Politics and International Studies, Cambridge University, and a Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University, Beijing, Fudan University, Shanghai, and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Singapore. He is a Senior Fellow at the Institute of Modern International Relations, Tsinghua University and at the China Institute, Fudan University.

Drew Murray

Drew Murray, freelance IT consultant, technology geek, father and co-founder of Team UnLimbited. Drew first got involved with the global e-nable community in 2015 having bought a 3D printer to satisfy his curiosity for all things geeky. He very quickly realised the potential for helping people with a limb difference and the positive impact this could have on both recipients and their families. Drew’s 6th recipient for a device was Stephen Davies, a CAD engineer from Swansea. Stephen and Drew began collaborating on 3D printed assistive devices and together they founded Team UnLimbited. Team UnLimbited continue to develop 3D printed assistive devices, gifting them to people in the UK for free and release all their work as open source for the global community to benefit from.

Lily Peng

Lily Peng is a trained physician who has been repurposed as a product manager at Google Health, where she focuses on applying deep learning and other Google technologies and expertise to medical imaging. Prior to joining Google, she was a product manager at Doximity, the “LinkedIn” for physicians, and a co-founder of Nano Precision Medical, a start-up developing small, implantable drug delivery devices. Lily completed her M.D. and Ph.D. in Bioengineering at the University of California, San Francisco and Berkeley, and received her B.Sc. with honors and distinction in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University.

David Rosenberg

David Rosenberg co-founded and leads AeroFarms, a clean-technology company that builds and operates advanced vertical farms in urban environments. AeroFarms has been recognized as a Circular Economy 100 company, won the World Technology Award for most impactful Environmental Company and received the 2016 New Jersey Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence. AeroFarms was also voted the Best Growth Company to invest in at the Wall Street Journal’s ECO:nomics conference, and was a finalist for The Circular Awards for The World Economic Forum. David is also the founder of Hycrete, Inc., a nanotechnology cleantech company. David is a member of the World Economic Forum where he co-Chairs the Young Global Leaders Circular Economy Taskforce. David is also a member of the B20 SME Taskforce, which advises the G20. David received his BA from UNC Chapel Hill and holds an MBA from Columbia University.

James Traub

James Traub is a journalist and scholar specialising in international affairs. He is a columnist and contributor to the website foreignpolicy.com. He worked as a staff writer for The New Yorker from 1993 to 1998 and as a contributing writer to The New York Times Magazine from 1998 to 2011. He has also written extensively about national politics, urban affairs, and education. Among his recent books are John Quincy Adams: Militant Spirit; The Freedom Agenda, on the American policy of democracy promotion, and The Best Intentions, on the UN under Kofi Annan. He is currently writing a book on the rise and fall of liberalism. He teaches classes on American foreign policy and international affairs at New York University, including on its Abu Dhabi campus. He is a fellow of the Center on International Cooperation and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Terry Virts

Commander Terry Virts was a test pilot in the US Air Force and a NASA astronaut. He flew to space twice as pilot of the Shuttle Endeavor on STS-130 and again on the Soyuz during Exp 42/43 to the the International Space Station (ISS) where he spent over 200 days in orbit. Sometimes, a little distance is all you need to see things in a brand new way. For Terry, his newfound perspective from the ISS, where he installed the Cupola module, granted an unprecedented 360-degree view from the station. He made good use of the Cupola, taking more photographs than any astronaut who came before him. Many of those images were used in his new National Geographic book “View From Above” and IMAX film A Beautiful Planet. He is one of only four astronauts ever to pilot the shuttle, fly on a Soyuz, conduct spacewalks and Command the ISS.

Taim Al Falasi

Emirati YouTube and Instagram sensation Futaim Al Falasi has an audience of millions. Better known as Taim to her followers, she started on her path to fame with two humanitarian campaigns and published an online entertainment magazine and online radio show during her time at Zayed University, where she studied visual communications. After college, she started her own YouTube channel, which now has close to 550,000 subscribers and more than 90 million views since 2012. The videos feature blogs from wherever she is in the world, concentrating on travel, food and events. Taim was chosen by Arabian Business magazine as one of the most powerful women in the region, and twice as one of the world’s most influential young Arabs in 2015 and 2016. In 2016, she was awarded two prizes by Stylist Arabia magazine in the travel and vlogging categories. In 2017, Taim was selected by Forbes as one of the top 10 female media influencers across the region. She owns two restaurants and a digital food marketing company.

Dr. Andrew Aldrin

Dr. Andrew Aldrin is Director of the Aldrin Space Institute at Florida Institute of Technology. ASI is a multidisciplinary institute created to advance commercial space development. Prior to FIT, Dr. Aldrin was President of Moon Express, responsible for day to day operations for the company. Dr Aldrin also held executive positions in more traditional aerospace industry, serving as Director of Business Development and Advanced Programs at United Launch Alliance where he oversaw development of corporate strategies, business capture, senior customer relations and advanced program development for civil space markets. Before ULA, Dr. Aldrin headed Business Development and Advanced Programs for Boeing’s NASA Systems, and Launch Services business units. He has also served on the professional research staff of the RAND Corporation and the Institute for Defense Analyses.

Rouba

Rouba a.k.a Roobz, is a soul singer / songwriter born in Lebanon and raised in the United Arab Emirates. She produced her first album entitled “Mama’s Back” in Los Angeles with music producer Joe Kennedy and made her official music debut in 2013. Rouba was one of the main featured artists at Abu Dhabi’s Beats on the Beach as part of the Formula One Yasalam program alongside renowned artists such as Missy Elliot and CEE LO GREEN. She has worked with renowned musicians such as Ziad Rahbani, Michel Elefteriades and Guy Manoukian performing at landmarks such as Musichall Dubai, Musichall Beirut, Jazz Lounge, Blue Note, Bar Louis, SNATCH and Bourbon Street in Amsterdam. Rouba’s passion for music began at the age of five and was influenced by the likes of Marvin Gaye, Cat Stevens, Janis Joplin, Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Wonder, and so many more from that era. Rouba is continuously using her music to spread positive messages about autism, female empowerment and unity.

Yann LeCun

Yann LeCun is Director of Facebook AI Research and Silver Professor at NYU, affiliated with the Courant Institute and the Center for Data Science. He received a PhD in Computer Science from Université P&M Curie (Paris). After a postdoc at the University of Toronto, he joined AT&T Bell Labs, and became head of Image Processing Research at AT&T Labs in 1996. He joined NYU in 2003 and Facebook in 2013. His current interests include AI, machine learning, computer vision, mobile robotics, and computational neuroscience. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering.

Chantal Saliba

Chantal Saliba Abikhalil News Presenter at Sky News Arabia. Chantal serves as a news presenter at Sky News Arabia. Prior to joining Sky News Arabia, Chantal was a news anchor as well as a producer and presenter for a real estate program on MTV Lebanon. She also produced and presented the Min Yom La Yom segment, a daily live program dedicated to social and cultural issues, on Heya TV. Previously, Chantal was the official presenter of Brand Power advertisements for the Buchanan Group in the Middle East. Early in her career, Chantal worked as an assistant director in the administration of the Human Science campus at Saint-Joseph University in Beirut. Chantal holds a master’s degree in International Relations as well as a bachelor’s degree in Economic Sciences from Saint-Joseph University in Beirut.

Miami Band

Kuwaiti group Miami Band is back at the Abu Dhabi Ideas Weekend for the second year running. The band started back in 1986, producing their first album in 1991, and have been inspiring and playing their hits includingباك تون (Back Toon) and يا عمري أنا (Yaa 3omri 2anaa) ever since.

Shamma Hamdan

Shamma Hamdan was the first Emirati woman to make it to the finals of Arabs Got Talent in 2012, eventually finishing second place. The following year, Hamdan made an appearance on the global TV show Coke Studio with British singer Jay Sean. Now 23, Hamdan is known for playing several instruments including the acoustic guitar, and mixing Khaleeji, pop, rock and flamenco elements in her music.

Eman Al Hashimi

Eman Al Hashimi is the first Emirati female composer for orchestra in the UAE, first to play in the World Music Day hosted in the UAE in 2000, first to represent the country abroad at the Expo Milan 2015, first to compose a melody using military instruments (Martyr), first to write the lyrics and compose the melody of an “Operette” for Year of Zayed, first to incorporate her music as a soundtrack in the movie “Ghafa”, first to perform at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, first to compose and write the lyrics of an “Operette” in the name of Umm Al-Emarat, and the first to establish a musical band named Eman-AlEmarat for opera and acapella.

Vera Ciocca

Vera Ciocca is known as the new promise of youth music. The Pop/R&B singer has distinguished herself by singing in three languages – English, Spanish and Italian and has successfully participated in national competitions in Colombia, achieving Top 8 at The Voice (Teens) in 2016. From an early age she has shown her passion for music beginning her musical studies in Italy as part of the “Società Barattelli” Choir at the age of 8 and starring in musicals as main characters in Mamma Mia, Rock of Ages and High School Musical. Vera is proud to be the winner of the Singer-Songwriter program with her own composition in Berklee and has been decorated by the municipal and state government of Colombia. She is currently studying music at NYU Abu Dhabi with a full scholarship and has been invited to perform in recognized events across the UAE.

Bader Hazza

Bader Hazza is a magician who has been practising his craft for the past 13 years. He started in Nigeria and continued in San Antonio, Texas. Bader was inspired by the many YouTube videos he watched on magic. His specialties include eating glass, hot coal, hypnosis, illusion tricks and pickpocketing. He possesses psychic abilities such as mind reading. In the past, he has held shows in the Embassy of the United States of America in Riyadh and at VIDXB in Dubai. Bader is looking forward to bringing some magic to New York University Abu Dhabi by participating in Abu Dhabi Ideas Weekend.

Adam Baluch

Multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter Adam Baluch is a one-man show. Using a loop station to live record on the spot, the half American/half Ugandan artist combines guitar, keyboard, trumpet, percussion, beatbox and a cross genre vibe that creates a unique style

Jamil Jabbour

Jamil Jabbour, 24, was born and raised in Dubai, although he’s of Lebanese origin. This musician has a true passion for music, as he lives and breathes it every minute of the day. With a singular voice that will make the floors tremble, Jamil has made a name for himself in the UAE, having played in places such as The Food Truck Jam, Abu Dhabi Corniche, Girders, Burj al Arab, Stereo Arcade and du Arena. Not only was he the runner-up for Yasalam AE Emerging Talent Competition at Beats on the Beach 2016, but he, with his band Ab Initio, was also one of the opening acts for Coldplay

Sherif Elmoghazy

From the kids to the kings, Sherif has been fortunate enough to perform in hundreds of shows and events in many countries in front of thousands of people from all backgrounds who share one love of peace and unity. Sherif is an Egyptian multi-instrumentalist musician, a desert soul, and has spent over 4000 hours diving under the water of the Red Sea. He has a deep sense of consciousness and harmonic spiritual approach in composing music which is mainly focused around the“HandPan”.

Rony Sarkis

Rony is a Dubai based singer songwriter whose genre of music includes Acoustic, Indie, Pop and Blues. He has been actively performing in Dubai for a few years playing in multiple venues and festivals such as Wasla Music Festival & Food Truck Jams in addition to multiple venues, bars and lounges around Dubai including Dubai Parks and Resorts. Prior to moving to Dubai, he was actively performing in Beirut, Lebanon.

Sal Houdini

New York-based singer, songwriter and producer Sal Houdini creates moody, melodic R&B tracks punctuated by hard-hitting rap lyrics. Sal released his first album at 21, while still at college. He has since released three more albums, offering a heartfelt and original take on the R&B genre.

Jay Abo

Jay Abo oozes blues. He is a singer/songwriter whose key influence is John Mayer, and you can tell. The way Jay gently plays his guitar with that soulful touch is mesmerising, never mind the fact that he has one of the smoothest voices you have ever heard. He recently finished in the top 3 acts at the Yasalam Emerging Talent Competition and lost by a hair but no worries, his following and popularity grew more and more. Jay Abo is an extremely talented musician that is going places with his music and more and more people are starting to take notice. We’re lucky to have him here in the UAE.

Abri and Funk Radius

Abri and Funk Radius bring a world of soul to the UAE, blending reggae, funk and blues with easy style. Alongside covering a canon of global icons, the sextet performs original material from lead singer and local legend Hamdan al Abri. The band is known for filling any space with signature positivity, charisma and camaraderie.

Dr. Aubrey de Grey is a biomedical gerontologist based in Mountain View, California, USA, and is the Chief Science Officer of SENS Research Foundation, a California-based 501(c)(3) biomedical research charity that performs and funds laboratory research dedicated to combating the aging process. He is also VP of New Technology Discovery at AgeX Therapeutics, a biotechnology startup developing new therapies in the field of biomedical gerontology. In addition, he is Editor-in-Chief of Rejuvenation Research, the world’s highest-impact peer-reviewed journal focused on intervention in aging. He received his BA and Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. He is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America and the American Aging Association, and sits on the editorial and advisory boards of numerous journals and organisations. He is a highly sought-after speaker who gives 40-50 talks per year at conferences, universities, companies in areas ranging from pharma to life insurance, and to the public.

Anthony Geffen

Anthony Geffen is one of the world’s leading documentary film makers and a pioneer in multi-platform storytelling. He has won four British Academy awards (BAFTAs) and eight American Emmy Awards. He followed Ang Lee and James Cameron to be presented in Hollywood with the Charles Wheatstone Award for his outstanding contribution to film and television. His diverse films include eleven projects with Sir David Attenborough including the BBC series The Great Barrier Reef, the theatrical film The Wildest Dream: Conquest of Everest and the recently acclaimed The Coronation with The Queen. He is considered by the media as a visionary for storytelling across different digital multi-platforms in 3D, interactive apps, and now immersive VR, AR and AI experiences. These include Space Decent, The Munduruku, First Life and Health VR. In 2007 he received the first British Academy Award for VR storytelling. Anthony is a fellow at St. Cross College, Oxford University.

Erik Huggers

Erik Huggers is an industry-recognised digital media senior executive and entrepreneur. He previously served as Vevo’s President and CEO. In this capacity, he was responsible for driving the strategy and growth of the company’s global footprint across product and technology, content and programming, and sales. He oversaw Vevo’s most successful period of growth, where views and revenues doubled over his tenure. Erik was a Senior Vice President at Verizon Communications Inc., where he was also President of the company’s OnCue business. Prior to that, Erik developed OnCue at Intel, where he was President of the company’s media division from 2011 to 2014. Before Intel, Erik was an executive board member responsible for the BBC’s Future Media & Technology division, where he launched BBC iPlayer, one of the first premium online video services. Erik has also held senior roles at Microsoft Corp. and at Endemol Entertainment.

Martin Jacques

Martin Jacques is the author of the global best-seller When China Rules the World: the End of the Western World and the Birth of a New Global Order. It was first published in 2009 and has since been translated into fifteen languages and sold 400,000 copies. The book has been shortlisted for two major literary awards. A second edition of the book, greatly expanded and fully updated, was published in 2012. A new updated and expanded edition of the book was published in China in April 2016. His TED talk on how to understand China has had over two million views. He is a Senior Fellow at the Department of Politics and International Studies, Cambridge University, and a Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University, Beijing, Fudan University, Shanghai, and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Singapore. He is a Senior Fellow at the Institute of Modern International Relations, Tsinghua University and at the China Institute, Fudan University.

Drew Murray

Drew Murray, freelance IT consultant, technology geek, father and co-founder of Team UnLimbited. Drew first got involved with the global e-nable community in 2015 having bought a 3D printer to satisfy his curiosity for all things geeky. He very quickly realised the potential for helping people with a limb difference and the positive impact this could have on both recipients and their families. Drew’s 6th recipient for a device was Stephen Davies, a CAD engineer from Swansea. Stephen and Drew began collaborating on 3D printed assistive devices and together they founded Team UnLimbited. Team UnLimbited continue to develop 3D printed assistive devices, gifting them to people in the UK for free and release all their work as open source for the global community to benefit from.

Lily Peng

Lily Peng is a trained physician who has been repurposed as a product manager at Google Health, where she focuses on applying deep learning and other Google technologies and expertise to medical imaging. Prior to joining Google, she was a product manager at Doximity, the “LinkedIn” for physicians, and a co-founder of Nano Precision Medical, a start-up developing small, implantable drug delivery devices. Lily completed her M.D. and Ph.D. in Bioengineering at the University of California, San Francisco and Berkeley, and received her B.Sc. with honors and distinction in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University.

David Rosenberg

David Rosenberg co-founded and leads AeroFarms, a clean-technology company that builds and operates advanced vertical farms in urban environments. AeroFarms has been recognized as a Circular Economy 100 company, won the World Technology Award for most impactful Environmental Company and received the 2016 New Jersey Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence. AeroFarms was also voted the Best Growth Company to invest in at the Wall Street Journal’s ECO:nomics conference, and was a finalist for The Circular Awards for The World Economic Forum. David is also the founder of Hycrete, Inc., a nanotechnology cleantech company. David is a member of the World Economic Forum where he co-Chairs the Young Global Leaders Circular Economy Taskforce. David is also a member of the B20 SME Taskforce, which advises the G20. David received his BA from UNC Chapel Hill and holds an MBA from Columbia University.

James Traub

James Traub is a journalist and scholar specialising in international affairs. He is a columnist and contributor to the website foreignpolicy.com. He worked as a staff writer for The New Yorker from 1993 to 1998 and as a contributing writer to The New York Times Magazine from 1998 to 2011. He has also written extensively about national politics, urban affairs, and education. Among his recent books are John Quincy Adams: Militant Spirit; The Freedom Agenda, on the American policy of democracy promotion, and The Best Intentions, on the UN under Kofi Annan. He is currently writing a book on the rise and fall of liberalism. He teaches classes on American foreign policy and international affairs at New York University, including on its Abu Dhabi campus. He is a fellow of the Center on International Cooperation and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Terry Virts

Commander Terry Virts was a test pilot in the US Air Force and a NASA astronaut. He flew to space twice as pilot of the Shuttle Endeavor on STS-130 and again on the Soyuz during Exp 42/43 to the the International Space Station (ISS) where he spent over 200 days in orbit. Sometimes, a little distance is all you need to see things in a brand new way. For Terry, his newfound perspective from the ISS, where he installed the Cupola module, granted an unprecedented 360-degree view from the station. He made good use of the Cupola, taking more photographs than any astronaut who came before him. Many of those images were used in his new National Geographic book “View From Above” and IMAX film A Beautiful Planet. He is one of only four astronauts ever to pilot the shuttle, fly on a Soyuz, conduct spacewalks and Command the ISS.

Taim Al Falasi

Emirati YouTube and Instagram sensation Futaim Al Falasi has an audience of millions. Better known as Taim to her followers, she started on her path to fame with two humanitarian campaigns and published an online entertainment magazine and online radio show during her time at Zayed University, where she studied visual communications. After college, she started her own YouTube channel, which now has close to 550,000 subscribers and more than 90 million views since 2012. The videos feature blogs from wherever she is in the world, concentrating on travel, food and events. Taim was chosen by Arabian Business magazine as one of the most powerful women in the region, and twice as one of the world’s most influential young Arabs in 2015 and 2016. In 2016, she was awarded two prizes by Stylist Arabia magazine in the travel and vlogging categories. In 2017, Taim was selected by Forbes as one of the top 10 female media influencers across the region. She owns two restaurants and a digital food marketing company.

Dr. Andrew Aldrin

Dr. Andrew Aldrin is Director of the Aldrin Space Institute at Florida Institute of Technology. ASI is a multidisciplinary institute created to advance commercial space development. Prior to FIT, Dr. Aldrin was President of Moon Express, responsible for day to day operations for the company. Dr Aldrin also held executive positions in more traditional aerospace industry, serving as Director of Business Development and Advanced Programs at United Launch Alliance where he oversaw development of corporate strategies, business capture, senior customer relations and advanced program development for civil space markets. Before ULA, Dr. Aldrin headed Business Development and Advanced Programs for Boeing’s NASA Systems, and Launch Services business units. He has also served on the professional research staff of the RAND Corporation and the Institute for Defense Analyses.

Rouba

Rouba a.k.a Roobz, is a soul singer / songwriter born in Lebanon and raised in the United Arab Emirates. She produced her first album entitled “Mama’s Back” in Los Angeles with music producer Joe Kennedy and made her official music debut in 2013. Rouba was one of the main featured artists at Abu Dhabi’s Beats on the Beach as part of the Formula One Yasalam program alongside renowned artists such as Missy Elliot and CEE LO GREEN. She has worked with renowned musicians such as Ziad Rahbani, Michel Elefteriades and Guy Manoukian performing at landmarks such as Musichall Dubai, Musichall Beirut, Jazz Lounge, Blue Note, Bar Louis, SNATCH and Bourbon Street in Amsterdam. Rouba’s passion for music began at the age of five and was influenced by the likes of Marvin Gaye, Cat Stevens, Janis Joplin, Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Wonder, and so many more from that era. Rouba is continuously using her music to spread positive messages about autism, female empowerment and unity.

Yann LeCun

Yann LeCun is Director of Facebook AI Research and Silver Professor at NYU, affiliated with the Courant Institute and the Center for Data Science. He received a PhD in Computer Science from Université P&M Curie (Paris). After a postdoc at the University of Toronto, he joined AT&T Bell Labs, and became head of Image Processing Research at AT&T Labs in 1996. He joined NYU in 2003 and Facebook in 2013. His current interests include AI, machine learning, computer vision, mobile robotics, and computational neuroscience. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering.

Chantal Saliba

Chantal Saliba Abikhalil News Presenter at Sky News Arabia. Chantal serves as a news presenter at Sky News Arabia. Prior to joining Sky News Arabia, Chantal was a news anchor as well as a producer and presenter for a real estate program on MTV Lebanon. She also produced and presented the Min Yom La Yom segment, a daily live program dedicated to social and cultural issues, on Heya TV. Previously, Chantal was the official presenter of Brand Power advertisements for the Buchanan Group in the Middle East. Early in her career, Chantal worked as an assistant director in the administration of the Human Science campus at Saint-Joseph University in Beirut. Chantal holds a master’s degree in International Relations as well as a bachelor’s degree in Economic Sciences from Saint-Joseph University in Beirut.

Miami Band

Kuwaiti group Miami Band is back at the Abu Dhabi Ideas Weekend for the second year running. The band started back in 1986, producing their first album in 1991, and have been inspiring and playing their hits includingباك تون (Back Toon) and يا عمري أنا (Yaa 3omri 2anaa) ever since.

Shamma Hamdan

Shamma Hamdan was the first Emirati woman to make it to the finals of Arabs Got Talent in 2012, eventually finishing second place. The following year, Hamdan made an appearance on the global TV show Coke Studio with British singer Jay Sean. Now 23, Hamdan is known for playing several instruments including the acoustic guitar, and mixing Khaleeji, pop, rock and flamenco elements in her music.

Eman Al Hashimi

Eman Al Hashimi is the first Emirati female composer for orchestra in the UAE, first to play in the World Music Day hosted in the UAE in 2000, first to represent the country abroad at the Expo Milan 2015, first to compose a melody using military instruments (Martyr), first to write the lyrics and compose the melody of an “Operette” for Year of Zayed, first to incorporate her music as a soundtrack in the movie “Ghafa”, first to perform at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, first to compose and write the lyrics of an “Operette” in the name of Umm Al-Emarat, and the first to establish a musical band named Eman-AlEmarat for opera and acapella.

Vera Ciocca

Vera Ciocca is known as the new promise of youth music. The Pop/R&B singer has distinguished herself by singing in three languages – English, Spanish and Italian and has successfully participated in national competitions in Colombia, achieving Top 8 at The Voice (Teens) in 2016. From an early age she has shown her passion for music beginning her musical studies in Italy as part of the “Società Barattelli” Choir at the age of 8 and starring in musicals as main characters in Mamma Mia, Rock of Ages and High School Musical. Vera is proud to be the winner of the Singer-Songwriter program with her own composition in Berklee and has been decorated by the municipal and state government of Colombia. She is currently studying music at NYU Abu Dhabi with a full scholarship and has been invited to perform in recognized events across the UAE.

Bader Hazza

Bader Hazza is a magician who has been practising his craft for the past 13 years. He started in Nigeria and continued in San Antonio, Texas. Bader was inspired by the many YouTube videos he watched on magic. His specialties include eating glass, hot coal, hypnosis, illusion tricks and pickpocketing. He possesses psychic abilities such as mind reading. In the past, he has held shows in the Embassy of the United States of America in Riyadh and at VIDXB in Dubai. Bader is looking forward to bringing some magic to New York University Abu Dhabi by participating in Abu Dhabi Ideas Weekend.

Adam Baluch

Multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter Adam Baluch is a one-man show. Using a loop station to live record on the spot, the half American/half Ugandan artist combines guitar, keyboard, trumpet, percussion, beatbox and a cross genre vibe that creates a unique style

Jamil Jabbour

Jamil Jabbour, 24, was born and raised in Dubai, although he’s of Lebanese origin. This musician has a true passion for music, as he lives and breathes it every minute of the day. With a singular voice that will make the floors tremble, Jamil has made a name for himself in the UAE, having played in places such as The Food Truck Jam, Abu Dhabi Corniche, Girders, Burj al Arab, Stereo Arcade and du Arena. Not only was he the runner-up for Yasalam AE Emerging Talent Competition at Beats on the Beach 2016, but he, with his band Ab Initio, was also one of the opening acts for Coldplay

Sherif Elmoghazy

From the kids to the kings, Sherif has been fortunate enough to perform in hundreds of shows and events in many countries in front of thousands of people from all backgrounds who share one love of peace and unity. Sherif is an Egyptian multi-instrumentalist musician, a desert soul, and has spent over 4000 hours diving under the water of the Red Sea. He has a deep sense of consciousness and harmonic spiritual approach in composing music which is mainly focused around the“HandPan”.

Rony Sarkis

Rony is a Dubai based singer songwriter whose genre of music includes Acoustic, Indie, Pop and Blues. He has been actively performing in Dubai for a few years playing in multiple venues and festivals such as Wasla Music Festival & Food Truck Jams in addition to multiple venues, bars and lounges around Dubai including Dubai Parks and Resorts. Prior to moving to Dubai, he was actively performing in Beirut, Lebanon.

Sal Houdini

New York-based singer, songwriter and producer Sal Houdini creates moody, melodic R&B tracks punctuated by hard-hitting rap lyrics. Sal released his first album at 21, while still at college. He has since released three more albums, offering a heartfelt and original take on the R&B genre.

Jay Abo

Jay Abo oozes blues. He is a singer/songwriter whose key influence is John Mayer, and you can tell. The way Jay gently plays his guitar with that soulful touch is mesmerising, never mind the fact that he has one of the smoothest voices you have ever heard. He recently finished in the top 3 acts at the Yasalam Emerging Talent Competition and lost by a hair but no worries, his following and popularity grew more and more. Jay Abo is an extremely talented musician that is going places with his music and more and more people are starting to take notice. We’re lucky to have him here in the UAE.

Abri and Funk Radius

Abri and Funk Radius bring a world of soul to the UAE, blending reggae, funk and blues with easy style. Alongside covering a canon of global icons, the sextet performs original material from lead singer and local legend Hamdan al Abri. The band is known for filling any space with signature positivity, charisma and camaraderie.

In recent years, drones have zoomed into everyday life. The Ideas Weekend gives you a chance to get up close and personal with these aerial innovations. At Grandteq’s specialist workshop, you can fly your own mini-drone. Use an app to code a flight path, then see if your idea takes off! Suitable for ages 10+

Discover the joy of woodworking in Techshop’s practical craft workshop. Instructors will share their skills to help you to shape your own wooden piece! Suitable for ages 8+

Limb-itless Possibilities

Children with a limb difference can feel excluded and isolated from their peers and the world around them. Drew Murray and Stephen Davies want to change this. Starting Team UnLimbited from a garden shed and a garage in their spare time, they began to 3D-print arms for the benefit of all. Learn more about this incredible initiative, and help build these amazing devices with the developers themselves! Suitable for ages 10+

Discover the history of Ethiopian Eskista dance and learn some of the basic dance movements with the incredibly talented Fendika, one of Ethiopia’s most famous bands.

Tote your Talent

You can let your creativity loose in this interactive workshop. With Techshop’s expert guidance, you will learn the art of silkscreen printing, and decorate your own tote bag to take home! Suitable for ages 8+

RARA with RAM

In this workshop, the Haitian band RAM will walk participants through the experience and creation of RARA music. Test your brass or percussion skills at this festival-style music jam or come and listen to the music being made before your eyes.

Introducing Haitian Dance

In this workshop, Haitian dancer Isabelle Morse will introduce you to Haitian-style dance. The workshop will end with a collaboration of live musicians coming together on the Red Theatre stage.
